5 Costa Rican MUST visit places

When I think about places I could recommend you to see when coming to Costa Rica, my mind has this overwhelming rain of ideas. Costa Rica is such a beautiful place with interesting activities, and I want to give you THE BEST options you couldn’t find at a more mainstream destination.

Since our most widespread attractions are nature and sustainability the next spots I’ll give you go accordingly, but check out our other posts on Instagram worthy spots post.

Volcán Poás

One of the beautiful volcanoes our country has a great infrastructure to go hiking in a group. It has one of the biggest crateres in the world, and you can see it from steps away. (from a secure and conveniently located balcony where pictures of it are amazing)

You can get tickets for the park at http://www.sinac.go.cr/ES/ac/accvc/pnvp/Paginas/default.aspx

Bahía Ballena

Located in Puntarenas by the Manuel Antonio park, this whale’s tale shaped bay is a gorgeous place to go and sink-in the nature around you.

When there’s low tide the whale tale appears and you can walk all the way to the tip, and while there’s high tide you can sit sunbathe while monkeys and parrots go about their life around you.

You can enjoy also bathing at the beach, the water is warm and perfect.

Proyecto Eólico Santa Ana

In our commitment with environment, Costa Rica has been running on renewable energy for 4 years now. And you can visit one of the main wind power plants located in Santa Ana, where the view is jawdropping. The project has 17 eolic towers in total.

Just be aware of the road going up is VERY steep, you will need a car in good shape to go up and down.

Hacienda Alsacia

A project founded by Starbucks, this is the first of their coffee farms open to the public. You can come and see the entire coffee process from a seed, the tree and on to the brewing of a delicious cup of coffee.

The place is so beautiful I want to stay there for days, you can have a cup of your favorite drink with a pastry while looking at the whole Central Valley.

Prusia Forrest National Park

If you like hiking through nature and disconnecting from everything, this is the ride for you. Located at just 46 km from San José Downtown, you can be there in less than an hour going by car. It is a mountain going up to the Irazú Volcano, so maybe you can do both in a day.

The Prusia forrest is full of flowers, steep paths and gorgeous sights of Cartago. Go there and breathe fresh air.
