5 Places to go shopping in Costa Rica
Who doesn’t like to get different local products when traveling? Whether you are looking for gifts for your loved ones back at home or to learn more about the lifestyle of the country. Local stores and products show us about resources and tendencies. Here we show you some stores you can visit and the kinds of products you can seek there:
Design Stores
Apartado Creativo, Kukara macara, De aquí y de allá, Tienda Eñe
There are also retail stores dedicated only to national designers and brands. In some of these you’ll find clothes, home goods, snacks and accessories. Some of them you might know from international retailers, but you’ll have to go to see which ;)
Most local designers like to portrait the beauty of the tropics, there I’ve found amazing gifts that impress everyone.
Multiplaza Escazú
Known to be one of the biggest and more exclusive shopping centers in the region, Multiplaza Escazú has more than 200 stores. It offers from exclusive international brands to souvenirs, and a variety of restaurants to enjoy a day of non stop shopping.
I’ve spent a whole day walking the mall until I need a coffee to boost me up.
Feria Verde de Aranjuez
It is a full organic farmer’s market well known for it’s breakfast section.
You won’t be the same after having brunch here, enjoying a delicious Taza Amarilla Café along with some exotic flavoured popsicles.
You can get vegetables and plants as well as derived products. I’ve seen some spices, jams and honey all organic and fertilizer free.
People of all San José come to enjoy it all and you should too.
Pop Up Stores with local products
Seasonally local designers and artists open up nomad stores around the San Jose area, where you can buy novelties and enjoy artistic performances. It’s a very happy environment full of #diy lovers and bohemian lifestyle.
During these fairs you’ll get special prices and new products, so if you find one don’t miss out!
Mercado Central
This is my personal favorite to find treasures, I found some very colorful knick knacks for my family.
If traditional products is what you are looking for you can’t skip visiting it, there is one in every town. It’s a very different place where you can have a wonderful and -most of all- CHEAP lunch.
This markets offer you decorative pieces and toys, also souvenirs to take back home. Some might say you can buy cheaper products here.
